          • By week 7, she is 0.7 to 1.2 cm long — barely the length of your pinky fingernail.

          For example, iron intake from foods and prenatal vitamins is important.

          Increased blood volume during pregnancy and the demands of a growing baby put pregnant women at higher risk of iron deficiency or possible anemia. The most readily available iron in foods is called heme iron, and it can be found in lean meat, including beef, dark-meat and poultry.

          Leafy green vegetables, dried beans, and peas also contain iron. To enhance absorption, eat them with foods high in vitamin C such as tomatoes or oranges. Prenatal multivitamins also include extra iron.
